Engineered timber products
Timber has progressed a long way since thin veneers
of wood were glued together to form the first plywood. Now a vast
array of timber materials is available for the designer to select
from.
Beams are no longer limited by the size of the available
trees laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams are made from reconstituted
timber and come in many cross sections and lengths up to 20m. Many
buildings can now be constructed in timber where previously it would
have been impossible.
Using timber I joist floors has now become
standard for many contractors and developers. The improved strength,
uniform depth and dimensional stability produce greater floor performance
and less call backs.
Sheathings and deckings come in many new forms
allowing economies to be made together with enhanced performance.
